Whisper/Roar essentially bears the glorious journey of Sebastian Gunawan as a label. As its name suggests, the label starts as a gentle whisper that grew louder and finally becomes a rumbling roar, resembling their initial creations that improves and evolves through time.
For this collection, Sebastian and Cristina were inspired by intricate hand skills, the beauty of texture & motives, and eccentric color lines that finally became the pinpoint of the whole collection. All the above was then combined with Asia's exotic charm and the romantic European fashion to produce 82 looks, each of them one-of-a-kind and unique.
As the models trotted the runway, it became obvious that Sebastian and Cristina breathed the 40s, 50s, and 60s influence into their creations. Sheath silhouette dresses represented the 40s era while wide skirts and dresses were present to portray the 1950s. The duo also toyed with stiff and crispy materials to provide the vintage aura that the 60s are known for. In between the array of dresses, cropped-coats and skirts were two wedding dresses and a jumper dress that maintains the silhouette of a dress when the model stood still then takes a form of jumper as she moves.
Sebastian and Cristina also experimented with sleeve models and presented various types of sleeves from short to puffed. But what caught our attention the most were the intricate details on each of the pieces; the demure crystals, sequins, and embroideries but most of all the ribbon-folding technique that created such a unique 3D effect to the pieces.
As you can see, each of the pieces had its own authentic charm that will enchant fashion enthusiasts all over the globe. With these new silhouettes and technique, it's safe to say that Sebastian Gunawan has successfully modernized the classics.
