The journey of matcha5 within the wedding space would not have started without this precious couple Dexter & Charissa. Upon seeing the handmade products by marginalised women, they made an enquiry to us on whether the women could also help them handcraft their wedding favours. Their wedding was held at church with a lunch reception. We love how this couple places people over the wedding celebration itself. The wedding preparation was not without challenges, but the conscious effort to take time to spend quality time with family and friends during wedding prep (not instructional sessions with a long list of to-dos) was a blessing to both the couple and the people around. When we value people behind a celebration, the perfection in execution becomes a lot less stress-imposing on self. We sit down with the couple to find out more about their journey! Here's what Dexter & Charissa shared regarding what made them decide to get handmade gifts by marginalised for their wedding: "Our desire is that our wedding gifts for guests are not only useful but also meaningful. When we saw the products on matcha5, we fell in love with the good workmanship. With the help from Rachel, we are thrilled that they were able to customize our wedding gifts with our wedding theme and colours, as well as Bible verse! We could even customise the products to be different for our male and female guests. For our male guests, we wanted cardholder for them; while the females got a floral pouch. The wedding favour was a hit with our guests and we heard some went back to our bridesmaids at reception to ask if they could take more! More importantly, we also wanted to help generate awareness for such livelihood programs that will support the disadvantaged to be self-reliant in the long run."
