Wedding of Nasya & Khairil
by The Pavilion Grand Bintaro

Updated on 12 October 2023, Tangerang

A Muslim Malay wedding, also known as a "perkahwinan Melayu," is a beautiful and culturally rich celebration that reflects the traditions and values of the Malay community, which is predominantly found in Southeast Asia, particularly in Malaysia and Indonesia. These weddings are marked by a blend of Islamic customs and Malay cultural elements. The wedding preparations often begin with a 'Hantar Tanda Tanda Merisik' ceremony, where the groom's family presents gifts to the bride's family as a formal proposal. The bride's family may conduct a background check, 'merisik,' to ensure compatibility. Once both families agree, they proceed with the wedding arrangements. The heart of a Muslim Malay wedding is the 'Akad Nikah' ceremony, which is the official marriage contract. It takes place at a mosque or a religious venue, with the Imam presiding. During this ceremony, the bride and groom exchange vows, and their union is officially recognized in the eyes of Islam.
