It’s not everyday that you get a phone call inquiry from a then bride-to-be on the side of the world for a wedding in South Africa. Perhaps too conscious about long distance charges, I had to make sure that our conversation was brief and short and after we hung up the phone, I received a message from her telling me that she literally had to pull over to the side of the freeway to jump in ecstasy knowing that PTV is available to film her big day. What she didn’t know was on the other side of the world, my wife and I were jumping in ecstasy ourselves excited to visit one of the most exotic places on earth! =) There were a few things I wish I knew before produce this South Africa wedding video: 1.) South Africa will be colder than a rainy Tagaytay morning. The ignorant that we were assumed the weather will be the same if not warmer with the Philippines thus not packing nor ready for a African winter. 2.) My wife will be pregnant (Yay!) a month before the trip. We were totally paranoid with malaria, yellow fever and all those other crazy-sounding health risks since her being pregnant and all is not allowed to get vaccines of any kind! =) We were wearing nausea-inducing insect-repellent stickers the whole time. Turns out, we are exposed to scarier (for foreigners at least) insect disease carriers here in Manila! Pinoy immune system is bad ass! 3.) It will be a very expensive trip. Then again, maximizing our 15-day stay going from Johannesburg to Drakensberg to Cape Town with Safari trips and cross-country drives kinda hinted that my credit card’s was maxing out. My wife and I are extremely grateful to create Jarrod and Ria’s epic South Africa wedding video highlights. From pre-priduction to post, it was simply phenomenal. The movie-worthy scenery, the fantastic people, the wonderful couple, it was overwhelming. Funny that there were more Filipinos, everyone traveled from somewhere (mostly Manila,) than South African guests. The celebration was very intimate that by the end of it all, we were very close to most of the brides Titos and Titas. Shout out to our couple KC and Tin Camaclang for introducing our work to Jazz and Ria. =)
