Rural Bliss - Rap & Kit

Couples who survive long-distance relationships are always a marvel to us. In the case of Kit and Rap, they got two things going to make their bond strong: our man's probinsya-style loyalty, and our lady's unwavering faith in the goodness of her God. This solid Christian faith was put to test when, on the weekend of their pre-nup shoot, typhoons came and went over Northern Luzon, carrying the unceasing rains of the southwest monsoon. While Kit was praying all the way from La Union to Balay Habi, we could not help but mutter during our pre-production meeting: would we be needing umbrellas, or would we be shooting all their photos indoors? These questions proved unnecessary because, behold, the heavens cleared up exactly as we hiked out to shoot (in some of the best outdoor spots in Bontoc and Sagada, Mountain Province). And then, as if on cue when we went back home to our studio, the rains fell down again. All we could tell Kit was "Lakas mo kay Lord!" :o Rap, meanwhile, had all the good signs of being ready for the domestic life. For one, he pampered the Habi household with not just one but three full meals, which he prepared with Kit as his "sous chef" :D There were 13 of us in the studio at that time, and Rap breezed through the kitchen work like a pro, solid proof that he's quite used to cooking for an entire extended family, just the way they do in rural Santo Tomas, La Union. That's always a great reading: it means he is a man for others. And you know what they say about people whose delicious meals are always a labor of love: they are for keeps. In this set, we see Kit and Rap living the country-side life -- a projection of their dreams, weary as they have become from trying to survive the urban grind. They wove rattan spines unto mugs, walked amongst greenery, visited the rice terraces, and yes, labored inside two different kitchens, one warm, and the other somber. They know life is not just a perfect meadow and a dreamy forest, but also a series of simple joys and serious moments.
