In recent years, more couples have chosen to delay their honeymoon for a couple of days or even months after their wedding. It might seem unusual and strange at first, but it can actually make sense once you know the reasons behind it. Read on to understand the benefits of both delaying your honeymoon and having it right after your wedding. Who knows, maybe they'll change your mind too.

Here's why you'll probably want to …

Delay

1. You'll have more time to prepare and relax

When you're too busy preparing for a wedding, you can end up forgetting to plan a honeymoon trip. If you decide to postpone yours, you'll have time to wind down right after the wedding and focus on planning the perfect honeymoon without getting stressed out.

2. You have time to save more money

A delayed honeymoon means having more time to save, especially if you've spent a lot of money paying for wedding costs. As you'll have more money allocated, you can probably stay longer in a better hotel, or choose a farther destination.

3. You're waiting for the right season

Some countries have different seasonal periods and you might prefer visiting a country during a particular season. If you choose Japan as a honeymoon destination, for example, you would probably have to wait until April to see the cherry blossoms in bloom.

4. You can't leave work

If you both work, you might have to delay your honeymoon simply because there's just no time. Maybe you can't leave your heavy work load, or maybe you've taken some leave to plan your wedding. Don't worry though, you can always start planning and coordinating your leave days.

Go straight away

1. You'll still be in a wedding mood

A wedding reception can be wonderful, but you might still consider the honeymoon as the climax, as it signals your journey as husband and wife. Going right after the wedding will ensure that you're still in a happy wedding mood.

2. You don't want to risk cancelling your trip

As time goes by, you might get tangled in work or other life matters and just end up not having a honeymoon trip at all. If you haven't booked a ticket or arranged anything yet, the chances of cancelling your honeymoon will be significantly higher.

3. You're already at your honeymoon destination

For those throwing a destination wedding, it's easy! Just by staying longer in the hotel or resort where you had your beach wedding reception, for example, you've already started your honeymoon. You can always move to another hotel in the area or take some day trips for variation.
