Intimate, thoughtful and completely DIY, Michael Skelly and Shelbie Bristol held their perfect wedding ceremony in Stubblefield chapel on the campus of Oklahoma Baptist University. The historical beauty of the quaint chapel needed no extra décor with its stained glass windows and glistening chandeliers.
As a couple who loves to travel, subtle travel motifs were incorporated into the ceremony. A paper plane toss and globe guestbook were unique touches by the bride and groom who wished to share their love for adventure and exploration.
Donned in an elegant custom gown by Linh's Bridal, Shelbie walked down the aisle with a brooch bouquet she assembled in one hand and her father on the other. Accessorised with earrings from her parents and her late grandmother's necklace, the ceremony was made even more personal as Shelbie's childhood pastor walked the couple through their vows.
At dusk, guests made their way to RED PrimeSteak in downtown Oklahoma City while Shelbie and Michael were chauffeured in a friend's vintage Mustang – Michael's dream car. A nice, sit down dinner with close family commenced where guests enjoyed their salmon and steak at the beautifully decorated table setting Shelbie put together.
"I wanted the table cloths to reflect the stationary, but in a subtle way. So I put down white table linen, with a black runner in the middle. On top of that runner was a white sequin, slightly smaller runner, which gave a black border effect to coordinate with the invites, menus, paper airplanes, and programs," she elaborates.
Centerpieces were floral balls placed in globe stands to resonate with the travel theme, while the tables were lined with Tulip floral arrangements – a representation of the tulip fields in the Netherlands she and Michael would be visiting for their honeymoon.
