We love the allure and mystery of abandoned buildings like this 19th century Istana Woodneuk (aka Wooneuk House) discreetly tucked away by dense foliage off Tyersall Road. The mansion belonging to the Sultan of Johor, was used as a military hospital during the Japanese occupation and suffered numerous bombing and fire attacks, most recently in 2006, which left the structure in ruins.
Although the house has seen better days, the wear and tear made for an eerily beautiful location for Kenneth Chan and Rachel Lam's pre-wedding shoot. According to photographer Wilson of AndroidsinBoots, the concept is "something a little dark, old and yet grand."
The distressed walls, chipped tiles, wall grotto, and filigree iron railings all lent a hint of European-inspired grandeur. Dressed in a flowy Paolo Sebastian Swan Lake gown from Truly Enamoured, with intricate embroidery and illusion neckline, Rachel looked simply breathtaking like a scene out of a period drama.
To lighten the mood, Wilson later took the couple to the grassy fields of Sembawang and shot a series of fun and lighthearted images. The bride donned a ballerina-inspired Colette tulle dress by Alexandra Grecco, also by Truly Enamoured, with a crown of fresh flowers.
