Picking out a wedding dress for that special day is a big decision that all brides-to-be dream about. With an ever increasing selection, choosing the right one for yourself may seem like an impossible task, but knowing your body type and the silhouettes that suit it will help narrow down the options.
Every woman has a different type of body, and while no two bodies are exactly the same, there are distinct body shapes that experts have identified – triangle shape, inverted triangle shape, rectangle shape, hourglass shape, diamond shape, rounded shape, and pear shape. No matter what your body type is, your perfect dress is out there waiting for you to walk down the aisle in. Here are some tips that will make wedding dress shopping simpler for you:
A triangle-shaped body has a slim and narrow upper body with a curvier lower body. Ball gowns and A-line dresses hide the lower body while accentuating the smallest part of the upper body – the waist.
The inverted triangle body type is the exact opposite of the triangle-shaped body, and is characterised by broad shoulders and narrow hips and waist. The ball gown and A-line dress helps to balance out the body with their relatively fuller skirts.
A rectangle-shaped body is characterized by the equal width of the waist, hip, and shoulders, hence brides with this body type should choose dresses that will create the illusion of curves. Empire, mermaid, ball gown, and A-line silhouettes all fit the bill in bringing out your hourglass-shaped alter ego.
The hour-glass figure has been deemed as the ideal figure where the hip and shoulders are of the same width with a well-defined waist. Dresses that flaunt your figure best are the mermaid silhouette, sheath, and trumpet.
Otherwise known as the apple or diamond shape, this body type is the widest in the mid-section, hence dresses that can elongate your silhouette and hide the torso will fit you best. Empire and A-line silhouettes do this best thanks to their high waist line and flowy skirts.
Brides with pear-shaped body types usually have a relatively smaller top and slim waist compared to the hips. These brides should show off their smaller upper body with an A-line silhouette that also hides the fuller lower body with its gradual flare from the natural waist line. The ball gown silhouette also does the job, but with a bigger flare than the A-line gown.
