Who knew that a modern, indoor pre-wedding session could lead to such a festive traditional celebration? Held at Hotel Bidakara in Jakarta, Diny and Uta's wedding was immersed in cultural traditions from two different ethnicities. The heartfelt ceremony in the morning showed just how modestly the pair envisioned their union. "We chose all-white traditional Javanese attires to symbolize purity and warmth," explained Diny.
They wanted something simple yet very traditional for the reception, focusing on the wedding stage and other decorations. "We asked Suryo Decor to make a 28-meter long stage inspired by traditional Palembang houses," shared Diny. The bride herself looked stunning with flawless makeup by Olis Herawati and a Fitri Alamsjah kebaya. Completing the look was an intricate Komering Ulu headpiece. "I wore the real deal, it was huge and very beautiful," she said.
Welcoming the guests, 20 traditional dancers were hired to perform the Tanggai dance. An ukulele performance by the couple's cousins soon followed, enlivening the entire celebration. As if things weren't exciting enough, Uta's father unveiled yet another surprise. "He hired Kahitna to perform at our wedding! They played all their hits and our guests enjoyed the performance so much, it felt like a concert," Diny reminisced.
A heartfelt celebration wouldn't feel complete without personal moments shared by the couple's family. That night, Diny's sister surprised everyone with a beautiful video that consisted of family photos from the wedding day of their parents, Diny's birth, and the siblings' childhood moments up to the time Diny met Uta. Said the bride, "She carefully arranged the photos as an incredibly beautiful story, I couldn't help but get teary-eyed."
