Instead of hosting a grand wedding reception, Xiao Xue and Jin chose to elope without abandoning their cultural heritage. Embracing their Chinese roots, the couple had a solemn tea ceremony at the scenic San Ysidro Ranch in Santa Barbara, California. Coming along with them was the talented photographer, Jen Huang, who happens to be their childhood friend. "It was such a lovely experience to style and plan these beautiful moments for them," said Jen.
"The tea ceremony is an important part of the Chinese wedding tradition, and I wanted to feature it in a modern, beautiful, and sophisticated way. I styled the ceremony between a husband and wife, sharing tea, allowing themselves a moment of respite and meditation before their wedding," Jen explained. During and after the ceremony, Xiao Xue had on a simple sheath dress in traditional red that made her stand out from the venue's picturesque lavender garden.
In the end, Xiao Xue and Jin just needed each other to celebrate their union. They didn't need a lavish party with countless decorations and delicacies, proving that less can truly be more. If you're planning to have an elopement, take some notes from this couple, who went on an extended honeymoon around the world after their simple celebration. Isn't that a wonderful idea?
