Setting an ideal wedding date is incredibly important because your wedding preparations and planning will revolve around this special day. It is also the day you will be celebrating your anniversary for years to come. With 365 (and 366 every 4 years) days on the calendar, it can be difficult to select that one special day. However, here are 7 you should definitely avoid!
Chinese New Year
While Chinese New Year is a joyous occasion, it may not be the best period to throw your wedding. With restaurants heavily booked for reunion dinners and venue surcharges for festive periods, you may have a hard time booking a wedding venue, much less an affordable one. Reunions and visitings also mean your guests may not be able to make it.
Valentine's Day
As romantic as it is to tie the knot on Valentine's Day, it may be harder on your pocket, with the price inflation of flowers, restaurants, and hotels. Besides, most couples have plans on this special day so you may be disrupting your guests' plans.
Leap Day
Occurring once every 4 years, the Leap Day (February 29) exists to balance out the Julian calendar. It's best not to hold your wedding on this day, as Greeks and Romans believe it to be bad luck to start any life event on Leap Day. Besides, you'll only get to celebrate your anniversary once every 4 years!
Easter Sunday
The most important occasion for Catholics and Christians, Easter is the holiest holiday when the resurrection of Jesus is celebrated. If you're looking at holding a church wedding, you might have difficulty booking a church and even an officiant as they are likely to be filled for Easter observances.
World Cup (or other sporting events)
If your guests are die-hard sports fans, you might be forcing them to choose between your big day and their big game. If your ceremony falls on the very same day as the game, you may have guests distractedly checking on the scores or skipping out altogether. Don't forget the effects of a losing game either, it may really ruin the mood for your wedding!
National Day
On this public holiday, citizens display their patriotism by attending the National Day Parade, or viewing it live from home. Holding your wedding on this day could clash with the festivities to celebrate Singapore's independence, and you may see a low turnout from guests who have tickets to the parade or have flown overseas for the holiday!
Christmas And New Year's
The Christmas season is always magical, but like Easter, it might mean you could have difficulty holding a church wedding. Venues may also see a surge in prices due to the festive season, and you're likely to have guests not being able to make it because of overseas trips or family celebrations.
