Your honeymoon is your escape after months of intense coordination and stressful situations leading up to your big day. But planning for it? It's no piece of cake. There's so much to factor in: Where do we go? Where will we eat? What do we do? Don't fret, lovebirds. With these pointers and an early start, you'll have something to look forward to in the midst of all the wedding planning drama.

Know your budget

Your honeymoon destination rests on your budget. If you want to fly to exotic locations or to the other side of the world like Ecuador, you'll need to consider pricey airline prices for one. But do note, you get what you pay for. There might be a reason for the unbelievably cheap deal you see online (e.g. hotel renovations) – do your homework before booking and try not to obsess with travel reviews while you're at it! And if you're not going the all-inclusive route, make sure to budget for activities and travel expenses. Tip: If you have tight wallets, why not consider setting up a honeymoon fund for your guests to contribute small amounts to as angpows? This way, the guests need not worry about what to get you and you'd have a bit more to work with.

Time is money

How many days are you looking at spending? If it's only going to be for a week long, you may not want to spend 2 days flying to Newark, leaving you with only a couple of days to actually enjoy. If you have a particular destination in mind, do your research to find out how easy it is to get around before booking your flight and accommodations. And ladies, remember: Do not book your honeymoon with your married name. Your travel reservations must match the documents that you will have when you are traveling.

Timed to the season

Check out what season your honeymoon timeline falls in and prepare for it.If it's in October, the monsoon season might affect your honeymoon plans in Thailand and won't be leaving you feeling so jolly. Remember to back up with good travel insurance in case of tropical storms or other unexpected circumstances.

Compromising on a destination

Planning a honeymoon that fits the both of you is tough. You'll probably go back and forth on almost every destination and type of honeymoon under the sun. Compromise and decide if your partner and you want a relaxing honeymoon or an adventurous one to celebrate your marriage. Or why not mix it up? Don't fall into the honeymoon trap and be open-minded to places. Instead of travelling to the same places over and over again, pair the adrenaline of Kenya with the serenity of the Maldives. Make your honeymoon memorable with contrasting experiences or destinations.

Plan a surprise activity

It's always nice to spring something unexpected on your partner so call up your partner's boss and secretly extend your honeymoon without him/her knowing. Or research into a creating a special experience for your other half. If your bride loves dancing, you could arrange an exclusive Flamenco class in the heart of Spain.
