The humble beginnings of today's featured cake vendor, Butter Bali, might surprise you. Gita Aryafara and her husband started their business as a small coffee shop at a quiet area in Canggu, Bali. Initially, they had only focused on making great coffee, homemade cakes, and baked goods. But within a few years, their shop grew more popular and started receiving inquiries for different kinds of cakes. The team soon shifted their focus to weddings and other special occasions.
"To be honest, we didn't even think of joining the wedding industry at first. Things just came naturally as we hired more staff to focus on baking and running the café," said Gita. Since then, she has found more time to focus on the artistic side of the business, especially cake decorating. "I found a lot of pleasure in expressing myself artistically and combining it with my love of baking," she continued.
For Gita, the ever-changing wedding trends should be something to celebrate instead of avoid. "I can't imagine wedding trends not changing—it would be terrible!" she said. However, Butter Bali still strives to create custom cakes that are tailored to each couple's personality. "I'm always looking for new ideas by closely following the trends. Then, I visualize about how to adapt that trend in the form of a cake without neglecting the couple's own uniqueness," Gita continued.
In the future, she plans to expand Butter Bali's dessert buffet to include tableware and decorations. She's also secretly dreaming of opening a new cake shop and offering sugar art classes one day.
