Those who have never visited Maldives think of the nation as a far-flung destination, but truth is, this paradise on earth is just a direct four-hour flight away. They include a freshly-prepared meal featuring your self-picked greens at the organic garden, a Bedouin-style dinner on Palm Beach, or a private barbecue extravaganza on a tiny isle across the resort's main beach that you take a pontoon boat to.
If going for intimate walks around the 200m-long island, or lounging by the sea taking in the stunning scenery aren't enough, there are several other romantic options. Attend the resort-organised movie night at the hidden open-air Jungle Cinema, where cushioned deck chairs, a large projection screen, popcorn and wireless headphones make the experience simply unforgettable. Hop on a sunrise or sunset cruise on a dhoni (traditional Maldivian boat) and spot some dolphins. Go swimming in its crystal clear waters, or join a marine biologist in an educational snorkel. And don't forget to indulge in some pampering at the Meera Spa, which boasts overwater suites with glass floor panels, and a host of body and facial treatments.
In fact, if you are considering holding a small wedding celebration there before your honeymoon, you'd be pleased to know Gili Lankanfushi boasts a gorgeous glass-walled overwater chapel, which is the only one in Maldives. There are also plenty of small, private nooks and crannies around the island – a large couple swing looking out to the sea, individual hammocks suspended above the water along the shore, intimate seating areas nestled within tropical foliage, a floating pontoon with lounge seats – where the best memories can be experienced and pictures taken.
