Ryan and Ariska both came from Medan. As of now, Ryan is involved in the world of politics, while Ariska is mostly known as Miss Grand International 2016. Since Ryan has Melayu Deli Royalty descent, they decided to do a traditional Melayu wedding.
It was indeed a challenge since the rundown for a grand Melayu wedding takes up a whole day in three different iconic venues in Medan. Their akad was held in the Al Mashun Mosque, the traditional ceremony at the Maimun Castle and the reception at the Benteng Field. Throughout the long and exhausting day, Ryan and Ariska never seemed to be tired. Both smiled the whole day, showing the chemistry between one another that would make anyone who witnesses it smile too.
The most exciting part of this event is, of course, the traditional ceremony. It started at noon, outside of the Maimun Castle where Ryan is carried on a hand barrow from the gate to the yard. Even though the sun was quite intense that day, the whole family seemed eager to do this traditional procession. Ariska had been waiting for her husband inside, in a dim-lit room to set a romantic ambience, dominated with bright colours of yellow signifying the Melayu essence.
Hempang Pintu begins the procession after the groom steps down the stretcher. Here the bride's family prevents Ryan from entering by asking his motives for marrying Ariska. Ryan then answered with several rhymes. After that, Ryan still could not approach his wife because he was blocked by a cloth guarded by relatives. In the Hempang Kipas procession, the two families exchanged rhymes which made the guests laugh. Then, the procession ended at the same time as Ryan and Ariska were finally able to sit side by side to continue the Nasi Hadap-Hadapan process.
Ryan has known Fatahillah Ginting since he was in high school. At that time, Fatahillah took a photo shoot for Ryan's school yearbook. Aside from getting to know each other, Ryan was also amazed by Fatahillah's shots at Kahiyang Ayu and Bobby Nasution's wedding, so he did not hesitate to contact this photographer to capture his happy day. "The most challenging part is facing a full crowd of visitors considering that both the bride and the big family have extensive relations, so the process of taking photo spots and moments becomes more difficult than usual," confessed Fatahillah. "Even so, the guests and friends of Ryan & Ariska also became a supporting factor to the thrill of these series of customs."
