Former women's magazine editor and founder of Material World Singapore, Deborah Tan wed her personal trainer hubby Simon, at Penang's ThirtyTwo At The Mansion – land of their favourite char kway teow!
Working together with wedding planner Rubina Tiyu from Inside The Knot, their casual low-frills reception was a celebration of life, love, food and alcohol ala Hangover-style! They tied the knot outdoors facing the Straits of Malacca followed by a 4-course European dinner in a canopied dining room.
"I just started up my new company so I didn't have budget for anything fancy. We used my iPod to play music and I didn't even want floral decorations, because that could be money better spent on buying more alcohol for my guests!" says Deborah.
And booze they did. "The wedding after-party was crazy – guests were dancing on chairs! I got so drunk I had to be sent back to my Airbnb apartment while everyone continued to party without me. And there was a minor scare because the ang pows went missing … but they turned up eventually," she laughs.
"I think our wedding was perfect for our personalities because we are very practical and were focused on what we wanted and how we want to leave our guests – very drunk!"
