A dash of rustic with a whole lot of modern elegance best describes Jono Zheng and Karen Tienzo's intimate wedding celebration at Suburbia restaurant in Sentosa.
They chose the gorgeous location for its versatile space where they could have a solemnisation in the garden outside and dine semi-alfresco after that, plus hold a gate-crashing in the cosy VIP room upstairs.
Using a muted colour palette of greys and nudes, the romantic affair came to life with rustic touches like a wooden signboard, fairy lights, burlap table runners, baby's breath flowers, wine crates and a delicious chocolate naked wedding cake.
One of the most memorable moments was during the traditional Chinese gate-crashing where instead of meeting his bride, Jono could only hold Karen's hand, separated by a door! "In my Filipino culture, the groom is not allowed to see his bride until she walks down the aisle," laughs the bride.
Friends from church and loved ones contributed to the wedding from photography to the evening's entertainment. The groom's cousin played the violin, the church band performed the wedding march and dancers moved the audience with their grace and poise.
The couple also showed off their playful side. "We rented bubble machines and toy bubble guns to keep guests entertained, gave out cute Lego Minis as favours, and we marched in to Backstreet Boys Everybody!"
