It was a union between galaxies for Kimberley Olsen and Ivan Ng, self-professed geeks who took their mutual love for Star Wars and Lord of the Rings and mashed it up for their wedding. The couple had their solemnisation by way of a Lord of the Rings inspired ceremony at Church of St Teresa, chosen for its medieval architecture. "It could easily pass off as a chapel in Gondor!"
Escorted by her father down the aisle to the bridal march of 'Concerning Hobbits' by the Arpeggione String Quartet, the bride wore a bespoke long-sleeved lace gown from MUN Boutique. "I wanted a very traditional gown that was also Lord of the Rings inspired," Kimberly shared. "Jasmine from MUN handstitched every patch of Italian lace, which made it absolutely magical right down to the veil, sewn onto a custom-made gold circlet."
Receiving her was Ivan, dressed in a Ermenegildo Zegna three-piece suit styled with a bow-tie. The newlyweds exchanged vows and signed the register with Lord of the Rings' soundtrack 'May it Be', performed acapella by Kimberley's 'intergalactic choir' of besties and well-known singers like Alicia Pan (who was also bridesmaid), Vanessa Fernandez, Dawn Ho and Michaela Therese. "I was trying not to cry because it was just so magical – the church's acoustics made everything sound so enchanting."
The ceremony was followed by a dinner reception at Shangri-La's Rasa Sentosa Resort & Spa, Singapore, where the party really began in the Horizon Ballroom. The event hall was set up with foliage arches in the hallway and simple wild flowers in greens, purples and greys adorning the tables, evoking a magical forest. Each table had tent cards of a Star Wars or Lord of The Rings location, including DIY-assembled terrariums with action figures that each re-enacted a classic scene. The couple's VIP table was decorated with their own Darth Vader LED lamp.
Aside from taking their first walk into the ballroom by dancing to a remix of Star War's Cantina Band, the couple also entertained the audience with a self-made music video that parodied their fave rap group, Beastie Boys' Intergalactic. The best part was how director Lawrence Ong from Lawlie Pop Creatives, managed to merge excerpts from the original video (such as the robot and cut scenes) into the footage. "When we played it, our guests went wild and it really livened up the atmosphere before we made our second entrance!" the bride gushed.
