Urban Quarter, an online shopping destination showcasing a comprehensive array of furniture and housewares, was established in 2017 with a specific vision of its founder, Adelaide Chintara. "I was working on a design and build firm, where designing and decorating for homes and commercial spaces were part of my day-to-day work. As I researched suppliers and checked out different platforms that sells home accessories and furniture, I realized there weren't any solid platform in Indonesia that sells the things I needed at a unique design, good quality and of course, affordable price," Adelaide explained. Thus, Urban Quarter is created to become a one-stop destination providing unique, high-quality and affordable furniture for your home.
Even though Urban Quarter's goods are influenced by Mid-Century and Scandinavian designs, all of their furniture is proudly manufactured in Indonesia. "We also partnered with 20 local brands and artisans such as Tyaga Goods, On & On Living, and Sajiva Ceramics for our housewares. We call the project: locals at Urban Quarter," Adelaide said. Customers can also create their own furniture to make it entirely personal and suitable for their home. "Buyers are welcome to customize Urban Quarter's designs with their own choice of fabric, size, and wood finishing. We're also developing our interior design services. Hopefully they'll be ready by the end of the year," she continued.
When it comes to furnishing a new home, Adelaide emphasizes on the important of time-management especially for newlyweds. "Timing is definitely one of the key factors. Some couples wish to have their new home recorded in the wedding video but had to let go of the plan as their house wasn't ready. Or, when realizing that they have not much time left to move in, picked everything they like at a furniture store without thinking how they would suit with each other and the mood of the house," Adelaide elaborated. "Set aside about 3 months to furnish your new home; 1 month to research and compare choices then the next 2 months for ordering, shipping and constructing. If you're still running out of time, prioritize the main rooms like master bedroom and living room," she went on.
Choosing furniture is yet another important aspect a couple needs to pay attention to when creating a new home. Adelaide thinks it's important to pick furniture & lighting that suit the mood of the house and that couples shop together for furniture. "As man and woman tend to have different taste and preferences, it would be a great time for the couples to decide on what should or shouldn't be in their home as well as determining the budget for the overall spending," Adelaide said.
Adelaide also gave some tips for newlyweds living in a rather small space, "aside from maintaining budget by purchasing only things you need, couples must be reminded of the space that's available for them. So be sure all the furniture you bought accommodates functionality and is suitable for the space available. " Last but not least, she encourages couples to enjoy entirely the process of furnishing and making a home. "Don't get overwhelmed or pressured. Keep in mind that this experience is like adding another memory for you and your partner. Good luck!"
