Your special day is just around the corner! Surely you want your skin to look its best, that's why you need to kick-start your pre-wedding beauty routine at least one month before the big day. But that doesn't mean you should just try every single beauty treatment available, as unsuitable ones can end up causing skin problems instead.
To make sure you get that certain bridal glow on the big day, check out our list of dos and don'ts of pre-wedding beauty treatments below.
Do:
1. Use face masks regularly
Face masks can help tighten your skin and give it a healthy glow. It can also help you freshen up your skin as well as reduce those puffy eyes you got after going through your guests list over and over again. Whether you prefer sheet masks or peel-off masks, choose one that's suitable with your skin type and place it on your face for 3 to 5 minutes.
2. Exfoliate your face several times a week
Dead skin cells that are building up can make your face look dull and yellowish. Gently exfoliate your face twice or thrice a week using an acid toner by lightly wiping it across your face with a cotton pad. Don't use the ones containing alcohol because they can be too harsh for your skin. Acid toner contains ingredients like AHA (glycolic acid) and BHA (salicylic acid) that can sweep away dead cells and help your skin appear brighter and smoother.
3. Apply sunscreen every day
Going out and about without any SPF on your face can add risks of discoloration and hyperpigmentation on your skin. There are so many lightly-formulated sunscreens on the market today that won't feel greasy or too heavy on your skin. SPF 30 is enough, and yes, you still need sunscreen even when you're working indoors.
Don't:
1. Change your skincare regime entirely
Although we encourage you to use face masks gradually, you shouldn't change your whole beauty routine only a few weeks before the wedding. You might get tempted by product recommendations and claims about how an entire set of face wash, toners, and creams can make your skin look brighter. But of course you don't want to have a risk of breaking out before the big day, do you?
2. Do chemical peels or facials that will dry out your skin
Sure, doing chemical peels or facials can help your skin look flawless, but if they include redness and flaky, scaly, skin on your big day? No, thanks. There are gentle face primers and foundations out there that are targeted for dry skin, but it's best to postpone these kinds of beauty appointments until after the wedding.
3. Get waxing or threading treatments right before your wedding
Sometimes, your skin can get mildly irritated after getting a body wax or eyebrow threading treatment. As a result of the irritation, small breakouts and red bumps may occur on specific areas. It's better to schedule your waxing appointment around one month before the wedding so your skin will have a chance to calm down.
