Channel NewsAsia executive editor and presenter Glenda Chong tied the knot with lawyer Justin Chan in a Peranakan-themed celebration last July. Wearing an off-the-rack nyonya kebaya and sarong-print heels, Glenda had her tea ceremony, followed by lunch, at Beng Thin Hoon Kee Restaurant. "It was wonderful to see bibiks and babas in traditional sarong kebayas and batik shirts," she says in an interview.
A month later, they held a dinner reception at Tamarind Hill Restaurant — a beautiful colonial house-turned-eatery surrounded by the luscious greenery of Labrador Park. Floral arrangements by Fleurlicious complemented the natural settings outside with a white and green palette.
The bride dazzled in a lacy ivory creation from Bridal Veil By Michelle HuiMin, and Justin suited up in a three-piece from The Men's Club. Some personal touches to the dinner included a pair of custom-made shoes designed by Glenda's friend Mashizan Masjum, and invitation cards and sugee wedding cake made to reflect her Peranakan heritage. "We kept the top tier to eat on our first anniversary," she adds.
