Ming Lee and Ewe Jin met during their first year of medical school in 2009. They quickly became friends, and eventually started dating after spending a lot of time together. The proposal that happened a few years later was as sweet and simple as their relationship.
"We were on a holiday in Sabah, one of our favorite places. As we went out to catch the sunset, he asked me to come along and see something that he spotted on the beach," reminisced Ming Lee. It turned out to be a "certificate" that stated her parents' blessing, as Ewe Jin had asked them for permission before proposing. "Then, he got down on one knee and asked the question. He even arranged for a secret photographer to capture all our moments!" she added.
After booking their wedding venue, photographer, and videographer a year in advance, they kept the rest on hold until two months before the big day. "Our family and friends said that we were too relaxed!" recalled the happy bride. In fact, the invitations were done a month before, Ming Lee got her wedding dress two or three weeks before, and her wedding shoes were bought the evening before the wedding. "Thank goodness our wedding planner, Moments, was amazing. Knowing the team was very reliable kept us calm all the way!" said Ming Lee.
Despite the hectic planning, the pair managed to throw in some charming wedding details that truly represented their personality. "Instead of writing our wedding vows on pieces of paper, we made our own hand-drawn booklets that we placed into a 'vow box'. Then, we made a pact to open the box every year and renew our vows by writing in our booklets," explained Ming Lee.
Another thing that caught our attention was their DIY wedding backdrop made of a thousand folded paper cranes. "We folded and strung the cranes ourselves, just the two of us, and our wedding planner helped to put them up onto the arch," said the beautiful bride. "Being the last-minute people that we are, we started stringing the cranes only two nights before the big day! Our backs ached, we lacked sleep, and I was so close to letting it go. But I'm glad we did it, the entire setup was just as we imagined," she added.
