Clarinta and Jan-Philipp, or JP, met by chance when the two were backpacking to Athens, Greece sometime in 2011. "I happened to stay at the same hostel where he was staying. We ended up exploring the city together and ke in touch after the trip ended," Clarinta reminiscged. Four years later, the couple revisited Greece to attend a friend's wedding. "On our last night in Athens, JP took me to a beautiful restaurant and popped the question right after dinner. It was a full circle. We met in Athens and got engaged in the same city!" she said.
After setting a wedding date, the couple started their preparation right away. The planning wasn't such a smooth sail at first. "JP's job required him to be in Europe for most of the year. This meant that I had to do most of the planning and coordinating myself, while also being busy with work," Clarinta recalled. That was when they enlisted the help of Flying Bride. "I had come across her work before on Bridestory and decided to book her at Bridestory Fair 2016. As I'm also a designer, I set high standards for my own wedding. Tassya's creative direction was always on-point, however, so I felt that the wedding would be safe in her hands," the bride explained.
When creating the wedding concept, Tassya of Flying Bride drew inspiration from Athens. "The city played a huge role in Clarinta and JP's relationship, so I knew that we had to incorporate Greek elements into their wedding," she explained. She decided to incorporate the Parthenon's marble pattern into the wedding stationery set and added blue shades to represent Greece. "Since the wedding was held at Khayangan Estate in Bali, we combined Greek olive leaves with Indonesian flowers like jasmine and tuberose," she added.
On the wedding day, Clarinta was her prettiest self. She had on a three-in-one wedding gown designed by Imelda Hudiyono. "I fell in love with her straightforward and fun personality. The dress itself was perfect for all my wedding processions," Clarinta said. An olive wrath laid on her head and flawless makeup by Eva Lovira completed her bridal look. She looked like a Greek goddess straight out of a story book.
Behind his cool composure, JP was actually nervous. "I was incredibly happy and excited but on the other hand, I felt quite anxious. I was just hoping that everything would go smoothly, the guests would enjoy themselves, and most importantly that Clarinta would get the day she had always wanted," said the groom. Clarinta herself was also nervous as she wasn't used to being the center of attention. But after dinner, speeches, and the first dance, the couple started to loosen up. "I was really happy to see all our friends and family gathered together with us to celebrate this day!" Clarinta said.
