For Malaysian couple Melvyn and Shokelui, an intimate and relaxed café celebration was their idea of a perfect wedding.
Pulling their collective talents – the groom is a producer and bride a graphic designer – the couple DIYed every aspect of their nuptials, from the flowers to photography, with the help of close friends and family members.
Starting the day with the traditional tea ceremony at each of their parents' house, the couple was chauffeured in between venues in a vintage Volkswagen Combi van decked with light blue tissue pom poms garlands and matching ribbons.
At sunset, guests arrived at Amaze K Café in Petaling Jaya, for a cosy dinner reception in an impressive industrial space glistening with fairy lights. Shokelui looked stunning in a sequinned knee-length dress from Miss Selfridge, while Melvyn was looking smart in a H.E. by Mango shirt and bow-tie.
Gift favours were in the form of Ikea milk bottles, with handmade tags tied around them as a memento for the special day. Dinner was served and everyone tucked into a hearty barbeque dinner that served barbequed lamb and delicious chicken satay.
Highlight of the evening was when Melvyn surprised his new bride with a song. "We just wanted everyone to enjoy themselves and be comfortable, rather than being bored at an uneventful celebration," says Shokelui.
