The love story of Ayu and Adli started in 2013, when Ayu just got back from her studies in Milan. It was only in the beginning 2014, however, that they began dating and to her surprise, she was proposed to on her birthday a year after. The preparation for their wedding, which was held at the lavish ballroom at The Dharmawangsa Jakarta, took less than six month. They were both quite lucky, as their parents entrusted everything about the wedding to them. They had long dreamed of a traditional wedding steeped in culture, and as Ayu is Javanese from Yogyakarta and Solo descent while Adli, whose family is from Bukit Tinggi, has Padang blood, they decided to mix their family heritages into the wedding.
When the big day came, it was quite interesting as everyone could experience each other's culture. Adli's family got to know how it felt like to experience the Javanese wedding tradition of siraman and Ayu's family was excited to dress up in vibrant traditional attires from Padang. Every procession, from the pengajian and siraman to the dulangan and midodareni was done in a very sacred and intimate way.
Looking at the gorgeous attires worn by their family members, Ayu and Adli really knew how to put everything together perfectly. They chose a soft pastel palette for their family during the wedding ceremony, while they were able to shine elegantly in white traditional attires. As the earlier ceremonies had been dominated by Javanese culture, the reception was another story. It was decorated with so many glamorous ornaments and both Ayu and Adli were clad in stunning gold attires typical of Minang culture.
"Adli and I are very proud of our heritage. We've always wanted to embrace both cultures and looking at the results, we are beyond happy. The highlight of my wedding was when Adli's father suggested us to open our reception accompanied by a Javanese song and right at the middle, it turned into a welcoming dance from Padang. It was a very beautiful moment and our guests loved it so much," reminisced Ayu about her most unforgettable moment from her wedding day.
