This couple's first encounter happened by chance when Aar was visiting his former office. "I saw Fenly in front of the elevator and watched her slowly passing by. I asked my friend about her, but nothing came out of it," recalled Aar. One year later, he happened to stumble upon her blog. "I sent her a message and we started talking a lot. We met one day before she went on a business trip to Singapore. Actually, it was my 26th birthday too," he continued.
Things escalated quickly after that day, and Aar introduced Fenly to his family on their third date. "During our fifth date, he came clean about wanting to build a future together with me. I was surprised, since he didn't even ask me to be his girlfriend in the first place," said Fenly. Although it seemed unusual, the relationship blossomed and their feelings for each other continued to grow. After seven months of dating, the two went on a weekend day-trip in Sentul. "He finally proposed during dinner at Royal Tulip Gunung Geulis Resort. He didn't bring a ring, but later on I got to choose my own! I was the happiest girl," she reminisced.
Just like their unique relationship, Fenly and Aar wanted something different for their engagement album. "We wanted something other than dramatic pre-wedding pictures taken in Europe or some other outdoor landscape," Fenly explained. Luckily, the couple had the perfect team in mind. "We worked at a lifestyle media company, so we already formed a strong relationship with our photographer and stylist. After one month of discussion, we finally came up with three solid concepts," she added.
The first was a contemporary shoot with an ethnic twist. "Our friend collects traditional textiles from different parts of Indonesia, and we fell in love at first sight with the hinggi weave from Sumba," explained Fenly. The next one was inspired by Annie Leibovitz's work for Vanity Fair. "She's one of our favorite photographers and we wanted to have that sense of glamour without looking over the top," she continued. The last session was a classic black-on-black photo shoot. "We aimed for a simple yet classy look," said Fenly. Which one is your favorite? Let us know in the comments section below!
