We all have a list of our favourite love songs that we dream of including in the wedding playlist.
High chance there will be an Ed Sheeran tune here, or a John Legend ballad there. According to Spotify, All of Me and Thinking Out Loud are the most featured songs on the music app's wedding playlists.
However, there are some well-known love songs contain lyrics that you may find totally inappropriate for a wedding celebration. Check out these top 6 songs on our Do-Not-Play list.
"I Will Always Love You" by Whitney Houston
Everyone knows when to take a deep breath before screaming the all-familiar chorus melody and words. This song that we have all grown to know as the ultimate love song is actually a break-up song. The guy's leaving her and she simply says that she'll still always love him. Now you don't want that for your wedding, do you?
"Every Breath You Take" by The Police
A big hit when it was first released in 1983, Sting wrote this in the midst of the collapse of his marriage. The lyrics give us a stalkery vibe to communicate the desire for control that he felt during the process, including jealousy and obsession. Eeks!
"Marry You" by Bruno Mars
Bet you didn't see this one coming! If you take a closer listen to the lyrics, Mars trivializes weddings and relationships making it totally unromantic. "It's a beautiful night / We're looking for something dumb to do / Hey baby, I think I wanna marry you … If we wake up and you wanna break up that's cool / No, I won't blame you / It was fun, girl." Skip this one if you can!
"With or Without You" by U2
I can't live with or without you – is really a song about problems in a relationship. Not the best way to start your lives together, right? "My hands are tied / My body bruised / She's got me with / Nothing to win and / Nothing left to lose." Yikes!
"When a Man Loves a Woman" by Percy Sledge
An oldie but goodie. This sounds like a great first dance number but our discerning ear tells us otherwise. Check this out: "Baby please don't treat me bad / When a man loves a woman…she can bring him such misery / If she's playing him for a fool / He's the last to know." Oh dear.
"Need You Now" by Lady Antebellum
We're not big Country fans but this one we absolutely love for its tear-jerking melody and guy-girl harmonies. Unfortunately, it tells of unrequited love that ends up in boozing the hurt away and rebound booty calls. Thanks, but no thanks.
