We see more and more couples togged in sneakers at their wedding and for very good reason – they are totally in-trend, way more comfortable than Jimmy Choos, and can be personalised to suit the occasion. Here are 5 ways to transform ordinary sneakers into wedding-appropriate attire.
1. Add lots of bling
Grab a glue gun and a bag of rhinestones (crystals if you have more money) and embellish your sneakers with shimmery bling. Also works with sequins and glitter.
2. Add illustration or spray paint
Flex your artistic muscles (or ask a friend) and add paint to canvas with illustration like the first flowers he gave you or your favourite comic character. Spray painting your name or wedding date is also another option.
3. Write your vows
If you have a steady hand, write your vows down on each other's sneakers. Use a ball-point pen so the ink won't feather. This way, you'll never forget what you promised to do for each other, for the rest of your lives!
4. Change the laces
Bring your shoes to life with a lace swap. Depending on the wedding theme, you could get polka dotted laces for a retro wedding, lacey ones for a vintage reception, or gold ribbons for a glamorous do. The bride can even attach a little tulle veil at the back!
5. Get them customised
Nothing beats one-of-a-kind Converse or Nike sneakers. You can custom-design the entire shoe from the eyelets to the sole, tongue, laces, interior and exterior, plus you can have your name or wedding date embroidered on the side or back. Makes a great gift for the groomsmen and bridesmaids too.
